“I'd never recorded before. I not only had fun – I felt at ease.”

Vocals Recording

Vocalists who perform with tracks have been recording at Backthird Audio since literally the studio’s very first session. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran of Chicago music studios or have never recorded at a professional facility before, every great vocal production calls for the same thing: The right mic. The right recording engineer. A recording studio you’re relaxed spending time in, and a studio staff that know how to treat you right.

If you perform with tracks but don’t play an instrument, the recording process is a simple one. We import your music into our ProTools system so you’ll hear the accompaniment you know in your headphones. You’ll sing several takes of your music, then pick the best – or edit together the best parts of every performance into a single take. Then, if you’d like, we’ll record your own backing vocals on top.

If you’re new to the studio it’s usually best to start with a single two-hour session. Bring several songs to record, see how much progress you make, and go from there. Some singers have enough material for a demo after a short session, while others prefer to return again and again.
